Leadership Activity : Recording Academy Members Mixer

My first activity as an intern for the Recording Academy was assisting them with their monthly mixer for their members and Grammy U students.

Every month the South Florida Chapter of the Recording Academy has a mixer of music industry members and Grammy U members. This is a great opportunity for professionals in the industry and students alike to network and get to know each other and their craft.

My job for this event was sent mass emails and postcards to all the members letting them know about the event. Also contacting the venue to make sure everything that was necessary for the event was in order and ready at the time the guests arrived to the venue.

For me this event was a breaking point personally. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico and there was where I did my Bachelors. During my Bachelors I had the opportunity to do a year long internship with Sony Music in their Press and Public Relations Department. I was used to do events with industry professionals back home.

When I moved to Miami, FL I knew no one in the music industry and had no idea how was I going to start networking with the right people to help me further my career. This internship allowed me to have a venue to do just that. In it I met a lot of industry professionals and this allowed me to start building a contact base in the South Florida area that I did not had before.
